I'm Happy Today
People are happy more often than they realize.

Happiness entails many feelings that aren’t often recognized as happiness. Joy is what people confuse happiness with, and this sometimes leaves them feeling lacking.
The feelings of happiness are subtle and obvious, happiness comes in small moments and grand gestures. We expect it needs to be the grand gesture, but really there are a multitude of small moments in any person’s life that constitute happiness at a deep and true level. The small moments are the ones that get missed but they are surely the greatest measure of a life as it goes by.
People want the big smile, the continuous laughter, the bubble of everyday ecstasy. This is an unrealistic goal for the common person and we are all common. We have something in common; we are happy more often than we realize.
Happiness is about a level of contentment that exists where the negative is not overshadowing the experiences of the day.
When you see the world for all its beauty, even if for only a moment as short as one single breath; happiness can exist in it. Then slowly add more breaths and before you know it you are experiencing more happiness than you know.
Happiness wells up from within but doesn’t need to project forcefully out. People can’t imagine happiness in its simplicity. They take it as a complex state of affairs where many goals must be achieved, to reach this external showing of an internal emotion. But its not the external showing that does the bulk of the work, the work is done within.
The expression, “happiness is an inside job” is more true than you know. The inner workings of happiness reflect in your experience. The inner workings of happiness are a gentle breath of wind. The inner workings of happiness are a flash of a pleasant memory. The inner workings of happiness are sacred happenings of the unity of self and spirit. The inner workings of happiness are not open to manipulations, they are snapshots of a true inner experience know only to the beholder. The inner workings of happiness can not be counted on an abacus, a chart, or a spreadsheet, the culmination of this emotion is all in its feeling.
There is a radiance within that bubbles up from the heart and flows out to the far reaches of the being so that the person is encased in a gentle, flowing, wellspring of love and contentment. The wellspring can flow constantly but is often interrupted by the negatives and nuances of judgement that one experiences throughout each day.
Recognition of a moment of happiness is a powerful occurrence, always it is the awareness of something that brings more of it to us. Focus is not the right word; acceptance, allowance, rejoicing in this small victory aligns more of them to you.
Once you’ve seen them, then you can begin to collect these little awareness's like pebbles on the beach, not for their numbers; simply for the beauty that they show you. Over time you will recognize that you are building your own little beach of pebbles and then one day someone will recognize your happiness pebbles and start collecting little bits of beauty from your collection.
The beautiful thing is that when this happens, no pebble goes missing. The recognition of a pebble just creates more and very soon you are building vast dunes in your pebble beach. It doesn’t matter what metaphor is used, the important thing is to recognize that happiness is always generated from within and that it’s there in those quiet moments when you don’t even think about it.
You don’t have to think about it to be happy.
Happiness just is.
With love and light,
